Charcoal Powder fun and Illustration Final Concepts

The two digital paintings are concepts for my illustration 1 final with Dan Krall (Everyone seems to want to take his class next semester which sucks because less space to enroll D:) The charcoal powder experiment is part of my Studio Remix Sketchbook class for the movie poster final. I feel bad for upload a lot of work but I'm drawing all the time and I don't have a personal website to upload my stuff yet so bare with me.

New moleskins

I really love moleskins at the moment, they have the most amazing paper that interacts well with the line quality of ball point pens and graphite. Not so well with wet media though. Anyway, here are some new sketches, from my new sketchbook. I am trying to make work every page until it becomes interesting to me rather than forcing everything to look neat and pretty. If neat and pretty so happens to be the result though I wont really be complaining, comparing this to my last years sketch book... oh my...

The Thing Poster

I put too much time in this and I need to work on my Blade Runner Final. Anyway here is this and I'm going to upload a few sketches in the meanwhile. It's two sketchbook images and a texture I made with ink on duralar. All are digitally edited together with photoshop and the graphics are obviously done from photoshop.

Massive Sketch Update Pt. 2

I feel like I have gotten stronger with my line work in these few peices, there are two pages from visual journalism in here mostly from my roman philosophy class because people are easy to draw in there. Keep in mind these are the few spreads I am fairly happy with out of tons and tons of sketches.

Massive Sketch Update Pt. 1

These are all sketches that I have done in the first half of the first semester this year, the more I look at them the more I am not so thrilled about them. But I definitely feel some developement happening and my had is becoming more comfortable with line making. Most of this stuff is from my head except the horse and some life drawing under the acrylic painted spread.

Priest and Neck

Most recent illustration 1 work. We had to take a monster and modernize it. I chose this monster called a Nokken where this underwater monster with yellow eyes and seaweed for hair would come out of the water as an attractive member of the opposite sex and lure the victim in and eat them. My modern version of this is a priest, an attractive member of society or at least one that people do not question and indoctrinates their victims.

Sketchbook

Most proud of this sketch because it is a character all from my head, my goal is to work really well out of my head, I don't mind using reference too much but I like to create things from my imagination.

Dragon Coast

Piece I did for Illustration 1 where I had to take the concept of dragons and revamp them. I focused on a foggy, dreary beach world where dragons flock together.

Fall Sky

Self portrait atmosphere painting. I'm starting to develop a nice range of brushes that I am comfortable with and that I think look good together.

Red Dawn

The top piece is kind of inspired by Nicolas Bouvier and the bottom is a character that would have a name like Gyger or something, maybe Killian. I'm going to finish the bottom one up pretty soon.

Atmosphere Speed

I usually sketch a lot more on photoshop than I make finished work. These are a two very quick (about a half an hour) atmospheric environment sketches, I was also playing around with some custom brushes.

Alien World

Some Alien Drawings I did over the summer, these were really to benchmark how well I could create an atmosphere from my head.
